GTA 6 was supposed to be unveiled on Tuesday, December 5th, at 3:00 PM, but things took a different turn. The official trailer unexpectedly leaked on Twitter the day before, forcing Rockstar Games to change its plans. Instead of allowing a low-quality trailer with a prominent "Buy bitcoins" watermark in the middle, the studio released the HD version online. A minor hiccup with no real consequences, as the game is currently a massive hit. It's breaking all records, and millions of fans are endlessly replaying the first video
The first GTA 6 trailer has shattered records, and the momentum is only growing with each passing day. The highly anticipated trailer, particularly from a technical standpoint, drew attention. Despite the absence of pure gameplay footage, Digital Foundry, Eurogamer's tech experts, decided to dissect the video. Is it a scam? A disappointment? The "most beautiful game in the world"?
According to them, there seems to be no deception as GTA 6 runs smoothly in real-time, not on a high-end 4K PC with ultra settings. The presence of artifacts and the dynamic resolution fluctuating between 1440p native confirm their observations. While character faces might be less realistic compared to other demos like The Matrix Awakens, Digital Foundry is impressed by the rendering of hair.
Undoubtedly, the sequence featuring a bikini-clad woman intentionally tossing her hair left a strong impression. Moments with the probation officer or the man with dreadlocks and golden teeth were equally noteworthy. Beyond the overall hair rendering, despite artifacts indicating real-time sequences, Digital Foundry is also amazed that it applies equally to both NPCs and more important characters, which is typically resource-intensive. Moreover, Rockstar's technology seems to excel in representing a diverse range of protagonists, regardless of their origin, gender, or morphology.
No cheating apparent, except perhaps for TikTok videos; there, pre-rendering might be in play. One crucial aspect of Digital Foundry's technical analysis of the GTA 6 trailer is ray-tracing. According to them, the lighting model is "impressive." Regardless of the global illumination solution used, it is deemed natural and coherent, especially compared to games utilizing a basic rasterization approach.
